New Speed Limit Abu Dhabi <> Al Guwaifat

| Ruwais, UAE | October 21, 2015

uae-highway-speed-limitStarting from 15th of November going to or returning from Abu Dhabi may take a bit more time, but you’ll probably also save some fuel in the process. This is due to a new speed limit that will take into force from mid of November.

The following announcement (poster) was shared on social media yesterday evening, but i did not take it seriously until i have received it, today, on my work email. I have also contacted the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ to confirm this. I have received a reply from Abu Dhabi Government Contact Center confirming the new speed limit.

How to help build a better community

| UAE | October 10, 2015

Living in a growing and mixed community is always a challenging and interesting experience. While our cultural differences may be in fact our own unique charm, our small mistakes can be highly offensive towards others. So what can we do to guide or correct some behaviors ? Posting photos on social media is not the answer.

Abu Dhabi – Oman Border & Visa Run

| Ruwais, UAE | October 5, 2014

If your relatives or your friends want to extend their 30 days tourist visa in the Abu Dhabi Emirate they have 2 options. You can go to the Residency & Expatriates Affairs office and pay 700 AED or You can do an Oman Visa Run and pay 35 AED upon UAE exit plus 5 Omani Riyals (48 AED) upon Oman entry. Oman exit and UAE entry is free of charge.

I chose to do the Oman visa run from Al Ain (eastearn part of Abu Dhabi Emirate) through Mezyad Border for my mother-in-law. Not only is it cheaper, but you can repeat this process without restrictions.

(Abu Dhabi) UAE – Oman Border Mezyad – GPS : N 24°01’33.1″ E 55°50’49.6″

I have started the trip at 5:30 AM (from Ruwais) and have reached the Mezyad border at almost 9 AM. The road is (on average) smooth and clear. Before getting to the destination you will pass a (mountain) rocky areas and a few camel farms.

Direct Road to Ruwais from E11

| Ruwais, UAE | October 5, 2014

In case you wanted to save some time while traveling back from Abu Dhabi to Ruwais, i have some good news for you. I am happy to confirm that we have an additional, fully working, new road that connects highway E11 to Ruwais.

As we all know Exit 142 is closed. The next best route to return to Ruwais from the eastern cities of UAE, that i have recommended in this article > was from Exit 127 Ghayathi roundabout.

That route is now obsolete. We now have a new route that will take us directly from E11 to Ruwais Mall. This new highway exit is after Exit 127.

It is a very good route as you can clearly see from the pictures. To see the photo gallery …

Online shopping solutions for Ruwais

| Ruwais, UAE | September 16, 2014

If you are living in Ruwais and you love online shopping, you will have a hard time getting your packages delivered to your door step. For example souq.com, Carrefouruae.com or SharafDG.com will not ship to Ruwais, because it is very far from Abu Dhabi (roughly 200 km+). But that is not going to stop us.

In order to take advantage of the online deals you have 3 choices:

1. Signup for Shop and Ship service from Aramex. Through this service you can get packages delivered to Ruwais from all over the world at an additional cost. Charges depend from where you get your package delivered from (USA, Europe, China, India, UAE) and how much the package weighs. I strongly do not recommend this when buying heavy home electronics (TV, fridges, washing machines)

2. Drive to Abu Dhabi to personally collect your packages from the couriers’ office. Here are a couple of courier offices where you can collect your online shopping packages.

This is the Aramex new office (on the old airport road / in the al jazira stadium area)
