Ruwais streets have been flooded with this new toy. The balance wheels, also popularly known as an electric scooter or hoverboard, resemble a skateboard using smart balance wheels. The scooter is maneuvered directly by rider’s weight and body posture.
It has become a popular choice among kids for recreation, fun and portable way to travel and move around. However, it has been observed that the users of the electric scooter are not following basic safety restrictions. As a result there are many incidents reported resulting in personal injuries and vehicle accidents involving this new scooter. Starting from 15th of November going to or returning from Abu Dhabi may take a bit more time, but you’ll probably also save some fuel in the process. This is due to a new speed limit that will take into force from mid of November.
The following announcement (poster) was shared on social media yesterday evening, but i did not take it seriously until i have received it, today, on my work email. I have also contacted the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ to confirm this. I have received a reply from Abu Dhabi Government Contact Center confirming the new speed limit.
