How to block advertising messages
One of my recent complaints with Etisalat led to me to the discovery of a simple shortcode.
“ball“ sent to 7726 will block all third party partners from ever sending you any promotional text messages (sms). While that may be a very good thing for your sleep and phone battery life, I soon discovered the drawback of that option.
Living in the UAE, will probably make you aware of how your mobile number is connected to almost everything. I am referring to the fact that your mobile number is your primary contact option. On that number you receive important text message notifications from government, couriers or post office. Among those, I am sure that you have received a considerable amount of unwanted messages too. Messages from retailers that you have visited and shared your contact details for certain discounts or loyalty programs.
Some retailers are aggressive with their advertising messages, and that will probably annoy you at one point. You can block them all. Simply sending ball to 7726 will stop all promotional smses coming your way.
The drawback is that you will stop receiving even Bank or Whatsapp activation messages. But if you activated the bank mobile application or if you use voice activation for whatsapp, that may not be a problem.
To cancel the block all advertisers messages simply send “uall” to 7726. The response to that action will be that “All sender addresses have been unblocked” and thus everything will be reverted back to the original status.
However, if you want to only block one retailer’s messages. You can send “b retailername” to 7726. For example you can send “b ikea” to 7726 to stop all advertising messages from IKEA.
If you have changed your mind, you can unblock a sender (retailer) by sending “u retailername” to 7726. For example, if you send “u ikea” to 7726, you will receive again advertising messages from IKEA.
