Ruwais.info Anniversary Challenge
2 years have passed since www.Ruwais.info was registered and developed into a news & ads website. Originally it was dedicated to Ruwais Housing Complex residents, but there are also many worldwide visitors interested in finding out more about life in Ruwais.
In this whole time i have gathered information and, with it, have tried to make interesting articles to improve and share the experiences, tackles and knowledge about life in Ruwais. Your positive feedback to the articles has always been a source of inspiration and encouragement. Remember to keep sending me your inquiries and i will try my best to deliver you the requested information through new articles, comments or emails.
According to our jetpack and google statistics, the articles and the ads have been visited over 286,410 times. I think this is quite impressive considering that Ruwais population is not that big (~20.000). But traffic is not actually relevant when it comes to delivering real information about Ruwais and creating a growing community on the website, as well as on our facebook page.
It is time to say a sincere Thank You and to invite you to our anniversary Challenge.

Amazon.com shopping with Ruwais delivery
I have recently discovered something interesting while shopping online on Amazon.com . It is probably old news for frequent online shoppers, but i think it is a good tip that everyone can benefit from. I will explain more in the following review.
In a previous article : Online shopping solutions for Ruwais i have mentioned the SnS service. While that service is crucial for online shopping from around the world, i mainly use it to shop from USA, on amazon.com. The SnS warehouse from USA is in state of New York, and all sales (including online shopping) are subject to a specific 8.875% local tax. What can we do to avoid those taxes ? We can change our freight company, we can select to buy from other sellers or we can have our orders delivered directly to our country.
Still, If you like shopping from amazon.com with SnS, i guess that you also tend to get the FREE Super Saver Shipping option on your purchases. So we are willingly accepting to wait 7-10 days to have the order shipped to our USA freight address in order to not pay additional shipping charges. Then we accept to wait another 4-5 working days to have Aramex deliver the package to our UAE location.

Abu Dhabi – Oman Border & Visa Run
If your relatives or your friends want to extend their 30 days tourist visa in the Abu Dhabi Emirate they have 2 options. You can go to the Residency & Expatriates Affairs office and pay 700 AED or You can do an Oman Visa Run and pay 35 AED upon UAE exit plus 5 Omani Riyals (48 AED) upon Oman entry. Oman exit and UAE entry is free of charge.
I chose to do the Oman visa run from Al Ain (eastearn part of Abu Dhabi Emirate) through Mezyad Border for my mother-in-law. Not only is it cheaper, but you can repeat this process without restrictions.
I have started the trip at 5:30 AM (from Ruwais) and have reached the Mezyad border at almost 9 AM. The road is (on average) smooth and clear. Before getting to the destination you will pass a (mountain) rocky areas and a few camel farms.
